Andrew Painter is an artist unlike any other: an original talent
with an instantly recognisable style. His paintings are joyful,
ironic and often surreal observations of life. "We are all
disciplined," he says, "but we all have in us some undisciplined
part. It is this that I like to develop".
Andrew was born in Wolverhampton in 1957, and studied at Goldsmith’s
College before setting out to travel the world and develop his own
artistic style. After some years’ teaching, he took up painting
full-time, and for the past 20 years has lived and worked in France,
where his work has attracted many collectors.
His
work is exhibited in galleries in Paris and elsewhere in France. He
also enjoys showing his work in unexpected venues such as hospitals,
and occasionally takes on large-scale commissions, which recently
included adorning the exterior of a Galleries Lafayette department
store with a 'constellation of large striped socks'.
He
has recently been invited to show at the Florence Biennale, as well
as to create the decor for the Nice Jazz Festival. Enid Lawson
Gallery is delighted to have represented his work exclusively in the
UK since 1998, with outstanding success. Andrew Painter's work is a
delight. |
