Born in London in 1938, David
Farrant has built a reputation as one of the finest painters of
portraiture in the country. Following his training at Central
St Martin's College of Art, David's impressive career has included
exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery (where he was a
finalist in the Jon Player Award for Portraiture 1989) and at the
Mall Gallery in London with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
He has also undertaken many prestigious portrait commissions
and has work in private collections all over the world.
For some time now, David has preferred to concentrate on his
large-format figurative painting in oils. He likes to hint at a
story in his compositions, deriving inspiration from everyday
scenes; the impact of light on moving figures is especially apparent
in his work.
Although photographic
reproductions of David's work, in the form of giclee prints, are
widely available, his original oil paintings are becoming very rare
indeed. |
