James Clarke
lives and works in Kent. He was initially inspired to paint by the
works of Caravaggio, but his interest later moved on to the likes of
Modigliani, Matisse and Lowry, amongst others.
Since he left Realism behind to develop his own style, the figures
in James' current pieces reflect his love of 1920s New York and are
often seen to be holding umbrellas, a characteristic of his work
which he feels creates mood and movement. His work is also
influenced by the rich colours he finds on his regular travels to
Australia.
James' work
has been shown in London, Dublin and Glasgow, and he has a sheik
among his collectors. He is proud to have made the final of the 'Not
The Turner Prize'. |
