Karl Terry is a plein air
painter who lives just outside the medieval town of Rye
in East Sussex. He has drawn and painted all his life
but, apart from Art O level, has had no formal training.
He considers himself very lucky, however, to paint with
his mentor and Grammar School Art teacher, Chris
Daynes. Karl also feels that, like most
plein air painters, he has
the best teacher of all in nature itself.
Karl
paints outside in all weathers, and his work represents
his personal and immediate response to being immersed in
the outdoor atmosphere. He continues to see fresh
revelations of colour that open his eyes to the beauty
that surrounds us, even in the mundane.
He
is represented by several galleries in England, and in
The USA by Galerie Gabrie in Pasadena. Karls work has
also been exhibited at:
The Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition
The Royal Society of Marine Artists – Mall Galleries,
London
The Discerning Eye – Mall Galleries
The Royal Society of British Artists - Mall Galleries
In
2008 he was awarded the Windsor and Newton Award at the
Patchings Art Festival and in 2010 he was awarded the
Redrag Award at The Royal society of British Artists
annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries. This year he
has been elected as a member of The Wapping Group of
Artists and has been featured on BBC2,s `Show me the
Monet`
