Paul Rafferty was born in Oxford in
1965. He moved to America in 1989 to pursue his passion for 'plein
air' painting in California and Long Island, influenced by 19th and
20th century masters such as Sargeant, Sisley and Seago. More of a
tonalist than a colourist, Paul strives to capture the beauty he
sees around him in landscapes and everyday life.
American Art
Collector magazine, which celebrates the ongoing renaissance of
aesthetic realist painters, has featured Paul's work in several
editorial articles. He has had several solo shows at the Grenning
Gallery on Long Island, and his work is in numerous private
collections including those of Fred Couples, Macy Gray, Jon Bon Jovi,
Michelle Pfeiffer, Tom Selleck and Catherine Zeta Jones.
Paul has subsequently moved with his wife and three children to
the south of France, where he now continues his work. He also enjoys
singing and playing jazz, believing there is no reason why a
painter's life has to be dysfunctional or rooted in darkness and
angst.
Enid Lawson Gallery is delighted to bring the work of this
important artist to the UK for the first time.
