Simon Taylor graduated in 1994 with a BA (Hons) in
Fine Art, and has been developing a unique style of painting. Using
various media including photography and painting, his work is based
around ideas of perception, with genuine responses to modern life
including subjects such as televisualisation, film theory, popular
and mass culture and identity.
Simon won the
prestigious Sefton Open Art Prize in 2006, and his work has been
purchased by many private collectors, public collectors and
galleries. His original paintings and images have also been used for
television productions and a variety of publications worldwide.
Simon’s latest ‘film panorama’ works portray figures and scenes from
films which are edited so that characters interact with others from
previous or future stills from the same movie. Having digitally
manipulated the photographs
and film stills to create the images he requires, he then paints the
images independently using acrylic or oil paint on canvas or
aluminium.
The manipulation of
film time and re-appropriation of the scene creates an environment
never directed, edited or filmed, offering a second view and
narrative directed and painted by the artist. The artist thus
becomes the director, editing the film image and creating narratives
that exist only on the painted surface.
Simon Taylor’s work
has been widely shown at solo and group shows in the north of
England, and in a number of public galleries. We are delighted to be
bringing his work to London for the first time. |
